The Queen’s savage two-word remark over Meghan’s flashy ‘spending’

Queen Elizabeth II allegedly delivered a blunt two-word remark to Prince Harry after growing increasingly frustrated with Meghan Markle’s high-end fashion spending, according to a royal expert.

Concerns Over Meghan’s Expensive Wardrobe

Royal commentator Robert Jobson claims the late monarch confronted Harry as the Duchess of Sussex’s taste for luxury designer looks continued to swell — often funded through palace budgets.

The Queen, who passed away in September 2022 at age 96, was said to be warmly welcoming toward Meghan when she first entered the royal family in 2016. But according to Jobson, that goodwill shifted as Meghan’s wardrobe choices become more extravagant.

“The Queen thought that Meghan was spending too much on clothes,” Jobson told Camilla Tominey, associate editor of the Telegraph UK, during an episode of The Daily T podcast.

Jobson pointed out that although the Queen herself wore high-quality outfits during royal tours in the early years of her reign, she reportedly viewed some of Meghan’s pieces — such as a bespoke Dior gown worth an estimated AUD $121,300 worn during the 2019 Morocco tour — as “over the top and not sending out the right message.”

The couture gown, entirely custom-made, has never been worn publicly again.

A Reported Flashpoint During Tea Time

Jobson and Tominey also discussed a moment that allegedly frustrated the monarch. During the Queen’s customary 5 p.m. tea, Harry is said to have phoned her asking for additional financial support.

“She took a call from Harry and then reportedly remarked, ‘more money’ while rolling her eyes,” Tominey shared.

“Yeah, I think that she got fed up,” Jobson agreed, adding that the palace had “spent a lot of money” helping the Sussexes over the years.

“I think the point was that they had supported Harry, and he was then saying later, ‘I never got any,’ well, he did. He got many, many, many thousands of pounds. More than we could probably know.”

Jobson added that the spending reached such a scale that King Charles III — then Prince Charles — eventually drew a line, reportedly telling the couple: “I’m not a bank anymore.”

Meghan’s Expectations and Early Shock

Elsewhere in the podcast, Jobson claimed that Meghan was initially “shocked” to discover Harry wasn’t “making as much money” as she expected from his position as a senior royal. He said she also envied the Prince and Princess of Wales’ home at Adelaide Cottage.

“At the time, Meghan and Harry were seen as the star couple, so she probably thought, ‘well, hang on, if I’m the star of a movie, I get the most money and the biggest trailer, and I don’t. I’ve got nothing here,’” Jobson explained.

“I don’t think she fully understood.”

New Accusations Over a Designer Dress

The commentary about Meghan’s love for luxury comes amid a separate allegation involving a designer gown valued at AUD $2,800 that she wore in a 2022 photoshoot.

The emerald green, one-shoulder Galvan “Ushuaia” dress appeared briefly in the trailer for her upcoming Netflix holiday special, With Love, Meghan. Fans quickly recognised it from her Variety cover shoot two years ago, a connection first pointed out by NewsNation’s Paula Froelich.

A fashion insider claimed to Page Six that the dress had “disappeared from the photo shoot” and alleged that Meghan “took the dress from the shoot without asking.”

Meghan’s Team Issues a Firm Denial

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Duchess strongly dismissed the accusations, telling People that any suggestion items were removed improperly “without the full knowledge and agreement of the on-set stylists or their respective teams is not only categorically false, but also highly defamatory.”

“Any items kept were done so in total transparency and in accordance with contractual arrangements,” the statement added.
